William III, Prince of Orange

Born November 1650, he became the head of the military of the Netherlands, and one of its most powerful politicians. Considered a great defender of the Protestant Faith, the Netherlands were considered one of the most tolerant places in the West at the time. Married to Mary, James II's eldest daughter, he and Mary were invited by the Immortal Seven to "deliver" England from the oppression of James and his anti-Protestant dealings. After his arrival in England, he joined with the new Convention Parliament in approval of the Declaration of Rights, later enacted as the Bill of Rights. He and Mary ruled together as William and Mary through 1702, until his unfortunate death during a riding accident.
