Hirsch Hall was greatly expanded in 1967. With the addition, the law school facilities spanned the length of the quadrangle. The expansion provided more room for the library as well as several classrooms, common areas and many additional offices.

The Alexander Campbell King Law Library is ranked 35th in the nation in holdings and houses nearly 370,000 bound volumes.

The most spectacular feature of the library is the spacious Carl E. Sanders Reading Room, framed by two-story picture windows which run the length of the room and overlook Herty Field.

During 2002, the law library was
one of the principal beneficiaries
of a $3.2 million renovation project.
Now there is task lighting and
power access at every seat.

Herty Field is within view of the law library’s Carl E. Sanders Reading Room, and
just a few steps from the law school. The luxurious green space includes a stunning fountain, which is lit at night. Herty Field is a popular spot for rest and relaxation by students, faculty and staff alike. This area was restored to its original grandeur in keeping with the university's master plan to reclaim green spaces and carry the aesthetically pleasing feel of North Campus’s beautiful lawns and common areas to other parts of campus.

This view of Herty Field is from a window of the J. Alton Hosch Law Library Annex, an extension of the law library dedicated in 1981. Herty Field is also part of the law school's wireless Internet campus, allowing students the opportunity for study outdoors via their computer.

You often see people reading on the lawn, enjoying
a picnic or taking in one of the lunchtime concerts
offered by ensembles from the School of Music
during the spring and fall.
