Acronym Server: Searching for the Meaning of L.I.F.E. Since 1988 : In addition to providing information about acronyms, invites users to submit new ones they have found.

Acronym Finder
: With more than 565,000 human-edited entries, Acronym Finder is the world's largest and most comprehensive dictionary of acronyms, abbreviations, and initialisms. Combined with the Acronym Attic, Acronym Finder contains more than 4 million acronyms and abbreviations.

CIA World Fact Book : Offering detailed information about the world's nations

CNN Video Almanac : "We've collected our best video since the birth of CNN in 1980. Choose a year or topic to begin a multimedia tour through history."

Information Please Almanac : Information Please has been providing authoritative answers to all kinds of factual questions since 1938—first as a popular radio quiz show, then starting in 1947 as an annual almanac, and since 1998 on the Internet

Old Farmer's Almanac : "Since 1792, The Old Farmer's Almanac has published useful information for people in all walks of life: tide tables for those who live near the ocean; sunrise tables and planting charts for those who live on the farm; recipes for those who live in the kitchen; and forecasts for those who don't like the question of weather left up in the air."

Who's Who Online : Searchable site containing professional and biographical data about individuals of accomplishment who are part of the worldwide Internet community. Profiles are provided by the individuals themselves, who own the copyrights to their own pages.  NOT a Marquis Who's Who database.

Law.com Legal Dictionary : Enter a legal term or phrase, search within definitions, or browse by letter
Dictionary.com : In addition to searching for definitions, provides access to a thesaurus and encyclopedia.  "Word of the Day" is available in either email or RSS feeds, and in English or Spanish.

Merriam-Webster Online : Enhanced features include English-Spanish option, as well as a medical dictionary.

Roget's Thesaurus : Hosted by the ARTFL project at the University of Chicago, this  searchable 1911 edition will not include modern words.  The site also contains an English-French dictionary.

Encyclopedia Britannica

Encyclopedia.com :
The Internet's premiere free encyclopedia, provides users with more than 57,000 frequently updated articles from the Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. Each article is enhanced with links to newspaper and magazine articles as well as pictures and maps - all provided by HighBeam Research.

Wikipedia : A multilingual, web-based, free content encyclopedia project. Wikipedia is written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world. With rare exceptions, its articles can be edited by anyone with access to the Internet, simply by clicking the edit this page link. The name Wikipedia is a portmanteau of the words wiki (a type of collaborative website) and encyclopedia. Since its creation in 2001, Wikipedia has grown rapidly into one of the largest reference Web sites.

Internet Public Library : The IPL was founded by a class at the University of Michigan's School of Information, and Michigan SI students almost exclusively generated its content and managed the Ask a Question reference service. As of January 1, 2007, the IPL has moved to Drexel University's College of Information Science and Technology. Now, a consortium of colleges and universities with programs in information science maintain the IPL!
